Time Management – If it Doesn’t Fit in Your Calendar, You Need to Make Choices

Anne Bachrach

When it comes to effective time management, start making a list of your high payoff activities you would like to put in your calendar for the next week or few weeks. Put them in your calendar and then honor that time. What do you want to accomplish to feel like you are making progress on the achievement of your goals?

After you have made your list, determine how much time each task will take, and then put each activity in your calendar. Now look at your schedule.

·         Are the business activities that have the most time allotted your highest payoff activities?

·         How much time do you spend or want to spend on tasks that don’t produce the results you really want?  Could those tasks be delegated and taken off your calendar?

·         How much time do you have for your spouse or significant other, your family, your friends, your health and fitness, and travel?

How does it feel to put all your activities down in a calendar and see where you spend your time?  If you would like your days to be different, then change your schedule. Your calendar should be designed to have the highest possible impact on you achieving your professional and personal goals.

If you are like many people, you will quickly realize that you don’t have enough time in the day to time block everything you want and need to get done. This is why you must prioritize your activities.
